Below is a brief history of our local congregation.
-May, 1924: Dr. E. O. Chalfant, Chicago Central District Superintendant, with the help of local resident Mrs. Ida MacMillan began a work in Elgin, IL as a tent meeting located at the triangle lot of Dundee Ave, Gifford St. and Summit St.
-July, 1924: The Elgin Church of the Nazarene was organized by Dr. Chalfant with seven charter members.
-December, 1924: The church voted to purchase property at 280 Franklin St. in Elgin, IL.
-April, 1961: The church voted to purchase property at the corner of Summit St. and Berner Dr., the church's current location.
-May, 1961: Final service at the Franklin St. location was held. Services were held at the Isaak Walton League for nearly two years while construction of the new building was completed.
-February, 1963: Construction on the new building was completed and the first services were held at the new location.
-October, 1963: The new building was dedicated by Dr. V. H. Lewis, General Superintendent of the Church of the Nazarene, with the benediction being, "Help us always to follow the leadership of the Holy Spirit and work under the shadow of the Almighty."
-1983: Memebers of Elgin Church of the Nazarene began to see the need to reach the Laotian refugees that had settled in the Elgin area.
-1987: Under the leadership of Vorachit Kounthapanya, the Lao congregation started meeting once a month.
-1988: Lao Church of the Nazarene was officially organized by District Superintendent Keith Bottles.
-2001: Lao Church of the Nazarene became a ministry of the Elgin Church of the Nazarene to be part of a Multi-Cultural church.
-2006: Lao congregation changed its ministry name to Lao New Harvest Outreach Church of the Nazarene.
